Handwriting- Is it on the verge of extinction?

We all have witnessed how technological devices like tablets and smartphones have been ruling our lives lately. With such ease and convenience at hand, we have been unknowingly becoming too dependent to these aids. Typing over MS word, making to-do lists in mobile phone apps, noting reminders on mobile calendars have almost declined the need to write in hand.

But, does this give us an excuse to ignore the fact that handwriting still forms the basic component where our education begins? Are we in a state where we can neglect or undo the need of handwritten assignments that kids need to submit in their schools? Absolutely not… How-much-so-ever technology may dominate our needs and demands, handwriting will remain an essential part of learning process in schools.

Why can’t we forget handwriting, at least in schools? Because…

·         It helps in identifying the alphabets that forms the written expression of a language
·         It develops the ability to learn the language itself
·         It adds to vocabulary and written etiquettes of communication
·         It indirectly helps build a fluent verbal communication
·         It helps remember useful information for long, sometime for a lifetime
·         It minimizes errors in writing and while speaking
·         And lots more….

If you too realize the importance of handwriting and the need to write legibly, Write Right welcomes you to explore a wide range of Handwriting courses. For more details, visit- http://www.writerightindia.com/.

Handwriting Problems- A real life scenario

Write Right was recently contacted by an individual over a social media platform where she had discussed about how her handwriting has gone a tremendous change since kindergarten. She says-

“I remember pursuing kindergarten when I was new to learn writing, I had a tragic handwriting. But that can be excused as I was in the learning phase. Over the years when I entered the elementary school, I started writing pretty well. My letters came in a proper shape, size and were legible. Then as I got into the middle school, my handwriting was beauty. Teachers used to pat my back for writing so well. I was proud of my handwriting.

Then came the computer age (approximately 3 years later) and I don’t even remember when my pen and paper were replaced by keyboard. All I wrote was on a computer screen as I typed letters or words on a keyboard. Today, when I write using a pen, my handwriting scares me. And so, I have an urge to get help from handwriting experts and make myself presentable in my written communication skills. I would appreciate if Write Right can assist me overcome my problem.”

Write Right, an institute of handwriting technology took immediate actions to put her into handwriting improvement course and give her back the beautiful handwriting she once had.

There are more such people who had faced similar problems with their handwriting. Write Right has always served them with the best handwriting courses, expert advices and indigenous training methods. For more details on our courses, visit www.writerightindia.com.

Good handwriting is an outcome of good reading skills

Do you believe that your reading habits can decide if your handwriting is good or poor? Yes, it does. Good reading habits make your handwriting legible and beautiful, while poor reading habits affects it negatively.

Reading books, novels, blogs, newspaper etc. aids in gaining more and more knowledge every single day. When an individual (who is also a good reader writes a piece, he utilizes his knowledge that he has gained from numerous sources. This makes his write-up more professional. As a result, the confidence that the things included in the write-up are correct reflects in the form of “good handwriting”.

On the other hand, a person who does not read has limited knowledge. He feels scared of expressing himself both verbally and in writing. He would lack confidence of writing useful information in his pieces and thus he would produce poor and illegible letters and words in handwriting.

Reading and handwriting go hand in hand. To enhance your reading and writing skills, take up the “Speed Reading” and “Handwriting Improvement, SpeedWriting or Calligraphy” courses at Write Right. Visit now!

Difference between Writing and Handwriting

You may find some people calling handwriting as writing. For those who would skip words (and believe it would not make a difference anyway), here are some points of distinction between ‘Writing’ and ‘Handwriting’. Yes, the two are not and should not be considered being same.

Writing                                                                                                Handwriting

·         Writing is an action of noting letters, words or sentences on paper with a writing instrument (pencil, pen etc.)

·         Writing may or may not be legible for the reader to extract meaning from it

·         Writing in simple words can be limited to putting one’s thought on paper

·         Writing can be scribbles, making marks, drawing and more

·         It is a mode of communicating

·         Handwriting is something that relates to correct formation of letters and words to be able to write long and short sentences

·         Handwriting supposedly has to be legible for the reader to comprehend what has been written

·         Handwriting involves knowing the letters, visualization skills, controlling the writing instrument, following the correct hand movements etc.

·         Handwriting is a mode of presenting one’s thought through writing

So the next time someone uses the tow words inappropriately, check them. Share your knowledge, but first correct yourself (if you too had been making the blunder). For more information about handwriting and different writing styles, visit http://www.writerightindia.com/ today!

Creative Writing requires a 'Pen'

Creative Writing, as the name suggests is an ability to present and express thoughts in a way that is different from the regular writing practiced by people. It is rather a skill that brings out an artist from within. Creative writing is not everybody’s cup of tea as it promotes effectively blending the knowledge, the thoughts and the ability to write and consequently produce a reading piece that is remarkable.

Every novel we read, or even those articles in our favorite magazines, the many website pages which we surf each day, are all a result of creative writing.

How do you think creative writing becomes possible?

Try to revisit your school days. All I recall being a student is that my first lessons were written down in notebooks. In fact piles of handwritten notes year after year, for every subject got accumulated and this is how we studied. May be (not being sure about everyone), we would still find our comfort zone writing stuff that strikes our mind with the help of pen and paper instead of typing the same on a computer screen.

The mechanics involved behind typing and keyboarding can never deliver the same effect as it does when writing in hand. Creative writing is a business that happens in splits and not in prolonged duration. If I have to write something that has just gone through my mind, I shouldn't be switching on my machine and then typing it later on particular software. But, I would just open a page of my notebook and jot down whatever strikes. Certainly all these shots of writing can then be typed and edited over a computer later on.

Creative writing happens when we initially put all the personal ideas on paper. The process starts the day we start our education. A handwritten page is full of rewritten words, scratches, arrows pointing the right positioning of sentences and even scribbling. This is how we deliver (for others to read) or read (from other sources) the outcome in its final stage. And so it justifies the statement that, “to write, and to write creatively, we need a pen.”

My opinion can be well substantiated with the fact that the ‘Mahagranths’ or epics like Mahabharat by Rishi Vyas, Ramayana by Valmiki, Geetanjali by Rabindranath Tagore, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, Tale of two cities, Oliver Twist and David Copperfield by Charles Dickens  etc. were all written and not typed. And the writers today are nowhere to reach closer to the legendary writers of that era. May be the ‘missing pen’ has something to do with it…

This article nowhere debates about the preference or the superiority of means and sources for practicing creative writing. It represents just a personal thought. Creative writing is all about choosing the tool that best suits the writer’s convenience.

Share your views about the same with us.

The Misconception about Graphology

‘Graphology’ is made up of two words ‘Grapho + logy’, where ‘Grapho’ is about graphics, lines, letters or words and ‘logy’ means the study of words. I fail to understand why in the world people confuse it with Astrology. Words written by hand can only depict the status when they are written, but nothing about the past or future. So let us discuss in brief what ‘Graphology’ exactly is!

According to the handwriting analysts or graphologists, an individual’s nature or rather personality can be known with his/her handwriting. With the popularity of graphology i.e. handwriting analysis, has also come a major misconception about the same. Graphology is many times misconceived to be “astrology”.

Graphology is NOT Astrology

Astrology is a tool which tells something about an individual’s future or past life or destiny. Some of the commonly known methods are tarot card reading, palm reading and more such fortune telling practices.

Graphology on the other hand is a rare knack of analyzing an individual’s personality traits through handwritten scripts in any language. Graphologists study and analyze the handwritten contents as on that day and at that particular time.

Astrology and Graphology are nowhere related. They are probably like the north and south poles. Graphology cannot predict future, neither can it tells anybody’s fortune or life incidents. It is only and only about studying a handwriting with a focus on the formations like loops, slants, spaces, pressure etc. as written in that time. The graphology results may vary. For example- the handwriting of a same individual can reflect different characteristics at an age of 8 years and 18 years. Even handwriting of the same person during the day and night may show difference in the graphology results.

We must know that handwriting changes with the passage of time. It may also vary according to the mood fluctuations i.e. it may be different when a person is happy, sad or in pressure. This makes it clear to us that graphology is an answer to any question related to person, personality, behavior, mood swings etc.

To deviate a bit from the subject, listed here are some of the properties of graphology that will help you understand it more clearly:
  • No two people have similar writing and therefore the graphology report is unique for every individual
  • It is totally based on the writing, irrespective of the gender bias or discrimination like age and religion etc.
  • There are no chances of manipulation or fluctuation in the result as it is based on the written substance
I now hope that those reading this article have a thorough idea of Graphology and how it is different from Astrology.

Handwriting reveals kids’ inner anxiety

According to an article in Times of India, Kolkata, Handwriting reveals kids’ inner anxiety, dated August 24th, 2014 “At least 10 to 15% of the kids in a classroom are suffering from attention-related disorders, aggression and other psychological issues... Now, school counsellors have started linking such psychological aberrations with handwriting saying that the way kids write often reveals their innermost turmoil.”

It has therefore become important for schools and teachers that they should spot the problems in the child’s handwriting and seek remedies from experienced graphologists and handwriting experts.

Ms. Jhimli in her article says, “It's a complex situation and starts from the primary stage with bad handwriting. Children from the kindergarten stage are mandatorily put through a handwriting regimen, first through pattern drawing and then formation of letters and cursive writing. This follows an international format certified by the UNICEF which should help them develop a legible, if not beautiful, handwriting by the time they are well into the primary stage. But, typically, there would be some kids, about seven to eight in a class of 45, who are not able to grasp these techniques, not because of a learning disorder but because they are suffering from deep psychosomatic disorders. Kids are divided into two categories Y2 and Y6 for this. The former indicates kids who are about seven years old and the latter are for those who are 11 years old. By the time they reach the Y2 stage, kids should be able to display a certain threshold of handwriting consistency, though the desired neatness happens at the Y6 stage. Children, who are still sloppy after Y6, are naturally displaying inner disturbance and need immediate psycho mapping and therapy, it is believed.”

What are your views on the subject? Don’t you feel the need to get the illegible and sloppy handwritings of your kids rectified by professionals? If you answer it affirmative, contact Write Right, world’s largest chain of handwriting institutes. You can also let your child (or the students of your school) participate in the world’s only Handwriting Olympiad where kids get individualized corrective advice, right from the desk of handwriting experts to improve their handwriting.
